This project was started to assist abused children in Naivasha and support them through counselling. The children are then resettled with their families where possible otherwise they are put up in an opharnage that will ensure their well being.
The project was started in 2003 as part of the 2004 Rotary Centenary Celebrations, in partnership with the Naivasha Horti Fair. It is based in the old Mau Mau prison buildings in Naivasha. RC Naivasha had to renovate and redesign the building to make it hospitable for children.
In the first year, 15 children were welcomed into the facility which is run by a team of 9 members of staff. Currently the safe house supports 42 children, from new born babies to 17 year olds.
The Naivasha Safe House has provided a safer environment for abused children where they get counselling to get them through their circumstances.
